| One of the most scenic states in the U.S., Colorado has the highest mean elevation of any state. Colorado has more than 1000 Rocky Mountain peaks over 10,000 feet high and 54 peaks are higher than 14,000 feet. Pikes Peak is the most famous of these mountains.
Colorado is known for its breathtaking scenery and world-class skiing. This state is a prime tourist destination and offers more than 40 state parks. The main attractions include Rocky Mountain National Park, Curecanti National Recreation Area, Mesa Verde National Park, the Great Sand Dunes and Dinosaur National Monuments, Colorado National Monument, and the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Monument.
Most of the population of Colorado lives in cities among the Front Range foothills, principally in Denver. Other major cities are Colorado Springs, Aurora, Lakewood and Pueblo.
Colorado is also known for some of its professional sports teams, including: Colorado Avalanche (NHL), Colorado Rapids (MLS), Colorado Rockies (MLB), Denver Broncos (NFL) and the Denver Nuggets (NBA).
