| Using a storage unit to move across town seemed like the perfect solution for me. I had to move out of my place three weeks before my new place was going to be ready. Putting everything in a unit and then storing it for three weeks was ideal.
I had the unit delivered to my house two weeks before I needed to move. It was great. I was able to pack on my schedule. The company arrived on time and picked up my loaded storage unit. They stored it in their facility until my new place was ready. When I was moving into my new place, the storage container was delivered right on schedule.
Up until the point of when I started to unpack the storage unit, I was pleased with my moving experience. I was extremely careful when I packed my storage unit. I bought the packing material and even researched on the Web the best way to store items in a container. When I started to unpack the storage unit, I was shocked by the number of pieces of broken furniture. My dining room table leg was cracked in two places and three barrel chairs were broken. I also noticed several boxes had shifted from where I stored them in the unit. When I called the storage unit company to ask how this could have happened, they told me it must have been how I stored items in the unit. They were nice on the phone, but they really weren’t concerned by the fact that I had damaged items.
Initially, I categorized the broken furniture as a lesson learned. However, as I began comparing the boxes unpacked to the master list I created when I packed the storage unit, I noticed two large boxes were missing completely. The two boxes were some of the last boxes I loaded in the unit. I know I did not leave anything behind when I moved, so that meant one thing – someone removed the boxes from my storage unit. I received no satisfaction when I called the storage unit company. I am in the process of filing a complaint and have decided I will never use this type of moving/storage system again.
