    Why Migration Matters at MovingPlace

For MovingPlace, migration is at the heart of how we understand and serve our customers. Understanding migration patterns and the reasons behind them allows us to help people navigate the moving process and connect with the best movers in cities across the U.S.

Migration patterns reveal more than just changes in addresses. They are powerful indicators of how Americans are doing economically, socially, and culturally. Where people choose to live, as well as the flow of residents in and out of a location, reflects what they value, be it job opportunities, quality of life, education, or community.

Our data-driven approach allows us to track these movements at a granular level, capturing where, when, and why people move. Long-term and month-over-month data allows us to distinguish between temporary surges, seasonal trends, and sustained changes in population movement.

For the moving industry, this insight can help inform resource allocation, staffing, and service expansion to meet real-time demand. Beyond logistics, migration data also offers a window into broader societal trends, such as cost-of-living pressures, regional economic shifts, and evolving American priorities.

About Our Hottest ZIP Codes Data

To uncover where Americans are moving to, MovingPlace analyzed internal data from millions of moves booked through Porch Group Inc. The data examines the origin and destination ZIP codes of each move, which enabled us to identify which areas are seeing the highest inbound migration across the country.

For the Hottest Zip Codes series, we aggregated this data to calculate the total number of people moving into each U.S. ZIP code, as well as per capita, and the ZIP codes seeing the highest trending increase over a one-month period. A “move” represents a household relocation facilitated through our platform, giving a clear picture of actual residential movement.

This study was made possible with in-depth consumer insights provided by data provider PGM, whose advanced audience data helps identify trends and patterns shaping American mobility. By combining these sources, MovingPlace delivers a proprietary, high-resolution view of migration, highlighting ZIP codes experiencing the fastest growth and the largest shifts in population.
