Question to MovingPlace
from Hannah H. in NV - Tuesday, January 24, 2023
I have a few questions if possible... 1) Do you transport immediately after picking up the moving truck or do my items go to storage? We are looking to have them taken directly from our old home to new home and want to make sure our items won't be lost by being dropped off somewhere. (this happened with another moving company so we are trying to make sure it never happens again!) 2) How long would it take from Reno, NV to Daytona Beach Shores, FL? We had a quote from your company but may move up our dates if possible. 3) Do we need to purchase a lock from the unit like PODS and UPack make you do, or is this provided? This is a nice feature for movers if you haven't started this yet, as most competitors make you purchase a lock. 4) we live in an apartment complex, so how many parking spots would we need for this truck so we are prepared? Thanks much for all the help!
MovingPlace Response
Hi Hannah, I will answer these questions in the order posed: 1. Movingplace is a direct-shipment company. Once you load your items onto the moving truck, that is where they stay until you take them off at destination. 2. It will take about 6 business days for transit. Your move coordinator will work with you to get the schedule ironed out. 3. You will need to use your own lock for the truck. 4. 5 parking spots are needed to park the trailer if you park it horizontally across the parking places. Looking forward to working with you! Pls let us know if you have any other questions. Movingplace

Question to MovingPlace
from Adrianna D. in CA - Tuesday, November 14, 2017
My husband is getting out of the military in a week and we were just told that they won't move our things, Mainly our 1995 bronco. We are in fallbrook, ca, moving to jackson mo. Is there anyway you guys could? How much would that cost?
MovingPlace Response
Hi Adrianna, We can help you with a self-service move. You may want to see if the military will help with the moving expenses as part of the Dity program (do-it-yourself moving). It is our experience that the government sometimes have allowances for self service moving for departing military members that will help them relocate at the end of their service period. Movingplace

Question to MovingPlace
from Jo U. in FL - Tuesday, January 26, 2016
We have forensic military trainings that we have to ship to other locations/military bases and normally we have to palletize and strap up everything once training is done and have a commercial truck come and pick it up and ship out, but sometimes we don't always have pallets and strapping, and would like to see if this might be an option for us next time. We would load up all the equipment, but then need it delivered to next training location where we would then unload ourselves. Would our stuff be secure or do we share the truck with other people's items? its about a 10x10 storage unit of material.
MovingPlace Response
Hi Jo, We do a lot of moves for the military and would be an excellent choice for your transportation needs. Your goods will travel behind a security bulkhead, so they will be safe and secure. We will never leave a truck in front of another customer's home with someone else's goods on board, so you have security and continuity of service throughout the process. Movingplace
Question to MovingPlace
from Jo R. in DC - Saturday, September 12, 2015
We work for military in Europe (as civilians) and will be returning Stateside. Apparently they will only ship our stuff back to the place we left from - Washington DC. We will have about 12 crates all packed and sealed. We would need to pay to move our stuff to our new location. Have you had this before? How much would it be, roughly, to haul our stuff to a new location - possibly Colorado Springs, CO? In your experience, do you think we'd have to empty the crates ourselves and load a truck or can the crates just be popped onto the back of a truck and returned empty?
MovingPlace Response
Hi Jo, When you are doing a military move like that, the military will send them to a storage facility in DC. Those crates are owned by MTMC "Military Traffic Management Command" and they will not let you "have" them. You will need to offload the crates into the moving truck at the facility in DC. We can help you arrange all of that. Please give us a call at 800-876-6839 and we can walk you through the process, helping with pricing and arranging the transportation. Movingplace

Hi Cieara, We would be happy to help you with your move, but to qualify for reimbursement through the US Govt DITY program, you would have to have orders for your move. Simply being active military will not qualify you for reimbursement. Movingplace

We need a long distance truck rental for a military dity move. We have been reading about PCS move options and wanted to know if you guys provided weight tickets with your long distance moving service?

Yes, we provide weight tickets with all Dity moves. Each of our relocation specialists is well-versed in the paperwork and requirements to help military personnel properly perform their self-service move. Please remember that we provide the moving truck, fuel, driver, and door-to-door service. In our opinion, there is no better way to do a long distance military relocation.
Question to MovingPlace
from Charlie W. in CA - Tuesday, April 9, 2013

Military move cost varies by how much space you are using on the long distance moving truck and how far you are moving. To get rates for your move, you can either fill out the form above or call us at 800-876-6839.
Question to MovingPlace

I have a military dity move coming up in April. I need to have certified weight tickets in order to get reimbursed. Do you guys provide those?

Yes, we are very familiar with the military dity move program for military members that are making a PCS (Permanent Change of Station). We provide certified weight tickets as well as some other perks for our military movers. Please make your relocation specialist aware that you are active military.
Question to MovingPlace
from Dity Moving Military Man -. in CA - Tuesday, October 30, 2012
I need dity move rates for a move from San Diego, CA to Homestead AFB, FL. I don't have a whole lot of stuff to move, but I want to ship my car on the same moving van with my furniture. Can you get me weight tickets for my PCS move separate from the weight ticket for moving the car?
MovingPlace Response
Dity Moving Man, Thank you for the good question. We have a lot of people ask this about their military pcs and dity moves. When you are moving your car and furniture on the same moving van for a dity move, you will only receive one weight ticket. You will need to tell your military traffic management office that you shipped your car on the same truck and they will subtract the weight of the car from your shipment. You may have to get them a registration or similar document showing the weight of the car. If you are authorized, the military will reimburse for the car shipment as well. Movingplace
Question to MovingPlace
from 2013 Dity Move A. in NC - Friday, October 26, 2012
I need to get military dity move rates for a relocation from CA to NC. How do I do that?

We are getting a lot of requests for our dity move service because you can make money on your dity move by loading and unloading your own furniture and buying the transportation through us. If you fill out the moving rate request form at the top of this page and put "military move" in the comments section, we will quickly email pricing and send you more information on how the process works. Question to MovingPlace
from Sgt H. in CA - Wednesday, October 24, 2012
I just finished my relocation briefing with the military and was told about you guys by one of the counselors at the traffic management office. I have never heard of this type of moving before. Can you tell me more about how I get reimbursed by the government for my move?
MovingPlace Response
Dity (do it yourself) moves are a large part of our business. The military allows you to arrange for your own move and then reimburses you based on rank and moving allowances. Military members make money using us for their Dity moves. It works very much like a civilian move with a couple of minor changes. You make your moving arrangements with us. We bring the moving truck to your home. You load it. We then take it to the destination where you unload it (each moving van is equipped with furniture blankets, loading ramps, tie-down straps, and a dolly). At delivery, our driver will give you certified weight tickets for the weight of your shipment. You turn those tickets in and the government pays you for the equivalent cost of a full-service move. Whatever the difference is between our cost and the full-service move cost that they allow, you get to keep! The military likes to allow the member to arrange for their own moves in this fashion. There is a higher satisfaction rate and, quite frankly, it saves them money. If you have any other questions on your military move, please do not hesitate to call. Our staff is all trained in handling those relocations. Movingplace
Question to MovingPlace
from Sgt Harris t. in FL - Wednesday, August 8, 2012
I heard that you can make money on your dity move because the government will reimburse you for full-service moving even though you do a dity move. Does your program count for reimbursement in the mility pcs dity move program?
MovingPlace Response
Yes. We can provide you with the documentation that you need to be reimbursed for your military PCS and Dity Moves.
Question to MovingPlace
from Harold I. in CA - Friday, July 6, 2012
The full service military moving program is out of movers for the month of July. So I have orders to move on July 17 and they cannot provide a mover for me? Can you guys help? Do you have any moving trucks? Traffic management at the base told me to do a DITY move. I read that you have the Upack service. Can you get military members moved this month?
MovingPlace Response
Yes, we heard that the PCS movers are completely booked into August and that the only option for military movers until then is a DITY (do it yourself) move. We still have availability for the You Load They Drive service for this month, but you need to make your moving reservations with no less than 5 business days notice so that we can route a moving truck to your location. Obviously, the sooner you make your moving reservations, the better.
Question to MovingPlace
from Red C. in NY - Sunday, July 1, 2012
I need DITY move rates for a military move. The traffic management office told me that I needed weight tickets for a DITY move. Do you guys provide weight tickets so that I can get reimbursed when I use the you load they drive service?
MovingPlace Response
Dity movers definitely need to get weight tickets in order to get reimbursed for their military move. When you fill out the moving quote request form on the right hand side of the page, make sure that you put DITY MOVE or DITY MOVER in the coupon code. You will get a military discount on your long distance move and you will get moving quotes that include free weight tickets.
Question to MovingPlace
from Elizabeth P. in FL - Thursday, June 21, 2012
I am doing a military personally procured move. After reading some of the posts here, it looks like a DITY move with one of the You Pack They Drive movers is what I need. How much cheaper is You Pack vs Full service moving?
MovingPlace Response
Most military members participating in the DITY move program are using the you pack they drive services. If you fill out one of our moving quote forms and put DITY MOVE in the coupon field, we will make sure that the appropriate military movers email moving quotes to you.
Question to MovingPlace
from Tommy S. in FL - Friday, June 15, 2012
Is a DITY move the same thing as a military pcs move? I am getting ready to do a DITY move and understand that the government will give me an allowance and that if I get the move done for less than they allow, I get to keep the difference. Is that correct?
MovingPlace Response
Yes and no. A military PCS move is simply a "permanent change of station" military move. The DITY military move program is the "Do It Yourself" section of the military PCS moving program. You can either get a full service mover for your PCS move or you can get a You Pack They Drive option for your DITY move.
Question to MovingPlace
from Sgt Tom B. in TX - Friday, June 15, 2012
I am in San Antonio and need to make a military PCS move. I see that you provide You Pack They Drive services. How much would it be for a Dity move from San Antonio to California?
MovingPlace Response
Most people that are making a Military PCS move are using the You Pack They Drive moving services. This is called a "do it yourself" or DITY move. It is less expensive and allows the military member to make more money on their PCS move. If you need a Dity mover, put Dity Mover in the coupon code section of the moving quote form and we will only send your request to moving companies that deal with military moving. They know to get the weight tickets and appropriate PCS and Dity move documentation in order for you to get reimbursed for your move. Movingplace
Question to MovingPlace
from Bruce H. in NC - Wednesday, June 13, 2012
I am making a military pcs move from North Carolina to California. How long do I get to load and unload your moving trucks? Can the moving companies delay the delivery date so that we can travel slowly to our destination?
MovingPlace Response
Bruce, The military pcs movers generally give you a day to load and a day to unload. They do not leave the moving trucks overnight in front of your house full of your furniture! You need to let the moving company know when you are booking your PCS move that you need to delay delivery. Many times, the mover can make you the first one on the moving truck and the last one off. That will allow you some time to vacation in between loading and unloading your shipment. Movingplace
Question to MovingPlace
from Vicki L. in NC - Wednesday, June 6, 2012
I am making a military pcs move in July and I need to get weight tickets for my move. Do you guys provide weight tickets for military moves for free? Apparently you have to have weight tickets in order to get reimbursed. Also, do you provide loading and unloading of the moving vans?
MovingPlace Response
All Movingplace movers are required to provide weight tickets for military pcs moves at no charge. You need to make sure that your mover knows you are performing a PCS move before they leave your origin city. In order to get reimbursed by the military, you need both loaded and empty weight tickets.
Question to MovingPlace
from Michael P. in NC - Wednesday, May 30, 2012
I am in the military and moving from North Carolina to California. I am making a PCS move. If I do a self service move (I load and unload, they drive), how do I get reimbursed for my move? I have heard that by doing this type of move, you can make money on your PCS move. Is that true?
MovingPlace Response
Military moving is easy and a military PCS move that is handled properly can actually make you money. The military moving program allows the serviceman or servicewoman to procure their own moving services and be reimbursed by the military. The best part about the military PCS program is that they pay you based on the weight and distance the shipment moves. If you are able to procure a more inexpensive moving solution, the military allows you to pocket the difference. We suggest looking at You Load - They Drive services. By loading and unloading your own goods, you save a lot of money and the military does not discriminate in their repayment plan. A well-planned move can have the service member pocketing several hundred to a couple of thousand dollars in savings.
