Question to MovingPlace

from Paula B. in SC - Wednesday, July 22, 2020

I would like to move a ping pong table from Bluffton SC to Des Plaines IL. Is this possible and feasible?

MovingPlace Response

Our minimum shipment on a truck would be a compartment that is 4ft deep, 8 feet wide, and 9 feet tall. We are not a cost-effective solution for the kind of move that you are looking to make. If you have a full studio apartment or more, we would be the right choice. Movingplace

Question to MovingPlace

from Rick M. in OH - Saturday, June 27, 2020

How far off the ground is the door to get into the truck. Do you provide a ramp to load the truck. What about motorcycles

MovingPlace Response

Hi Rick, Our moving trucks are 4ft off of the ground, but do come with sturdy loading ramps. The ramps support up to 750 pounds, which is enough for a small motorcycle. If you have a large bike, like a Honda Goldwing or Harley Davidson, you would need to have a rollback wrecker come out to load it as the ramp would not support a bike that big. Movingplace

Question to MovingPlace

from Aaron B. in TX - Tuesday, June 16, 2020

I’ve got a tight driveway that can’t get a semi truck on it for sure. I was just wondering about the size of this truck and trailer comparing it to the 24’ uhaul option for my 3000 sw ft home. Dallas to Columbus Ohio. Thanks.

MovingPlace Response

Hi Aaron, The trucks that we use are 28 feet long, 8ft wide, and 9ft tall (interior dimensions). The exterior is 13.5ft tall (accounting for the tires and bed of the truck off the ground. Our trucks are considerably wider, higher, and longer than even the largest Uhaul. So we are an excellent choice for large household moves. Movingplace

Question to MovingPlace

from Ken W. in CA - Tuesday, June 16, 2020

Hi, we do not have a fixed move date yet as our house has only recently gone on the market. We are looking at moving from Murphys, CA 95247 to Murphy, NC 28906. Do you operate in those areas and are you able to provide storage at the NC destination

MovingPlace Response

Hi Ken, Yes, we service most areas in California and North Carolina... and we do service both of those towns. We have storage available in North Carolina as well. You would load everything in California and we would transport it to North Carolina where we would leave it on the truck and hold it at our secure terminal. When you are ready, just give us a couple of days notice and we will bring the truck out for you to unload. Movingplace

Question to MovingPlace

from Jerry K. in IL - Monday, May 25, 2020

1) How do I estimate how much space I'll need in the truck? I have a few dozen stackable bins, a couple dozen moving boxes, sectional sofa, 2 upholstered chairs, kitchen table (disassembled), 6 wooden kitchen chairs, an elliptical machine and a fold-able treadmill. Do I measure the bins and boxes - if so, how high can they be stacked? I have numerous ratchet straps and bungee cords to secure the load every few feet, but I need a good way to estimate how many lineal feet based on the width and height of the truck interior. 2) Assuming the truck space is shared, how do you guarantee my items will not be taken by mistake by somebody else if the truck delivers to them first?

MovingPlace Response

Hi Jerry, Great questions. The moving trucks are all 8 feet wide and 9 feet tall inside. The variable is the length. If you measure out a space in your home that is 8ft wide and 9ft tall, you can then get a "feel" for how much length to order. We will also give you a rate for what each additional foot of space will cost if you end up needing a little more on loading day. You will not run out of space! We only haul one household goods shipment on each truck. Your shipment will be the first thing on the truck and will go right against the front wall. Once you are done loading, a bulkhead wall is installed that separates your goods into a "private compartment". We then load general boxed and crated freight at a freight terminal to fill out the truck. Your goods are never left in front of someone else's home nor are they taken off of the truck. We transport the truck to the destination, drop off the boxed freight at a destination freight terminal, and bring the truck to you to unload your household goods. So, when we say that it is a shared truck, we really mean that it is only shared with freight, not other peoples' belongings. Movingplace

Question to MovingPlace

from Michele C. in NC - Wednesday, April 29, 2020

I have some furniture items that need to be moved from my moms estate in Alabama to my home in NC. How would I go about finding a shared moving truck space for this

MovingPlace Response

Hi Michele, We can certainly help you with this. We just need to figure out how much space you would need on the moving truck and put together some pricing. You can fill out our quote form for this or feel free to give us a call at 800-876-6839 and we can quickly get your pricing over the phone as well. Thank you for your interest. Movingplace

Question to MovingPlace

from Karen B. in NE - Wednesday, April 29, 2020

We are moving from NE to AZ and will need storage for about 6 months once the units would arrive there. Do you operate in Lincoln? Do you provide climate controlled storage for that length of time? Or would we need to rent storage elsewhere and just unload the unit? I need this information before I choose a moving company.

MovingPlace Response

Hi Karen, We can help you with storage, but our limit of storage is 3 months. We actually keep everything right on the same moving truck and hold it at our secure terminal in your destination city until you are ready for it. For the amount of time that you need, it would be necessary to take it to a storage facility and offload it, which is totally fine. We deliver to storage facilities across the country on almost a daily basis. Movingplace
