Question to MovingPlace
from Paula B. in SC - Wednesday, July 22, 2020
I would like to move a ping pong table from Bluffton SC to Des Plaines IL. Is this possible and feasible?
MovingPlace Response
Our minimum shipment on a truck would be a compartment that is 4ft deep, 8 feet wide, and 9 feet tall. We are not a cost-effective solution for the kind of move that you are looking to make. If you have a full studio apartment or more, we would be the right choice. Movingplace
Question to MovingPlace
from Aaron B. in TX - Tuesday, June 16, 2020
I’ve got a tight driveway that can’t get a semi truck on it for sure. I was just wondering about the size of this truck and trailer comparing it to the 24’ uhaul option for my 3000 sw ft home. Dallas to Columbus Ohio. Thanks.
MovingPlace Response
Hi Aaron, The trucks that we use are 28 feet long, 8ft wide, and 9ft tall (interior dimensions). The exterior is 13.5ft tall (accounting for the tires and bed of the truck off the ground. Our trucks are considerably wider, higher, and longer than even the largest Uhaul. So we are an excellent choice for large household moves. Movingplace
Question to MovingPlace
from Wanda P. in MD - Wednesday, November 13, 2019
As part of a will, there is a large bureau that needs to be moved from Mexico, NY to Commerce TWP, Michigan. Will you move a single item like this? How can I get a quote and a timeframe?
MovingPlace Response
Hi Wanda, We are more of a "whole household or full apartment" type moving company. My suggestion for a single piece like that would be to contact the UPS Store. They have options for moving single large pieces through their ground freight division that my be the right fit for your move. Movingplace
Question to MovingPlace
from Alejandro R. in NY - Friday, October 25, 2019
Most of the quotes are based on number of rooms but I sold all my furniture and only have boxes. Around 25 to 30 boxes among other decor pieces including a window unit AC. I need a quote based on that not based on the size of the apartment because it doesn’t make sense.
MovingPlace Response
Hi Alejandro, What we can do is quote you pricing for our smallest shipment size, which is 4 feet x 8 feet x 9 feet (L x W x H). That might be overkill for a move as small as yours, but the pricing for our minimum shipments is still usually good enough to make economic sense to ship with us. Movingplace
Question to MovingPlace
from Jack O. in TN - Friday, October 25, 2019
What is the exact inside dimensions of the trailer? Width and height? I have 16ft in length booked.
MovingPlace Response
All of the trucks are 8ft wide and 9ft tall inside (they are actually just a bit wider than 8 feet, but we call it 8 feet to be conservative). Movingplace
Question to MovingPlace
from Sandy P. in CA - Tuesday, August 6, 2019
I have a small load approximately 12 banker boxes that need to go to Tacoma Washington area How can that be accomplished ?
MovingPlace Response
Hi Sandy, We are not the right choice if you are only shipping a few boxes. Our smallest shipment is 4 feet x 8 feet x 9 feet on a moving truck... so we would be overkill for what you are moving. Our suggestion if you are only shipping boxes is to call UPS or another package shipping company. Movingplace
Question to MovingPlace
from Carla J. in KY - Tuesday, August 6, 2019
I am needing a price and how much space I will need. it is a 10x12 storage unit full. I am needing to move from KY to Washington state. No really big furniture. only big thing is a kitchen table. But it’s apart. Rest is boxes and a rocking chair.
MovingPlace Response
Hi Carla, There are a couple of ways to figure this out. Our trucks are 8 feet wide, 9 feet tall, and 28 feet long. We break them down into smaller compartments using mobile walls (called bulkheads). The best thing to do is let us help you figure out the same amount of space that you have in the 10 x 12 storage unit and get you the same amount of space on our truck. Movingplace
Question to MovingPlace
from Arleen G. in CA - Saturday, July 6, 2019
we had a trailer delivered today and anticipate needing more room than what we reserved. how do we know how much additional space is available? thanks
MovingPlace Response
Hi Arleen, You can use any additional space that is left on the moving van and only have to pay the predetermined rate per foot that you arranged when you ordered the truck. Movingplace
Question to MovingPlace
from Linda Redder L. in SD - Monday, June 17, 2019
When you say 6 feet what is exactly is the dimension? What If you need more space when you are loading
MovingPlace Response
Hi Linda, All of the moving trucks are 8 feet wide an d9 feet tall. When we quote your shipment, we are quoting on the only variable, which is the length of space that you use inside the truck. So when we are quoting a 6 foot shipment, we mean 6ft x 8ft x 9ft (L x W x H). If you needed a 10 foot quote, it would be 10ft x 8ft x 9ft ... and so on. If you need extra space on loading day, you can certainly use it if you need it. When you book your move, your move coordinator will tell you in advance (and put on your order) what extra space will cost if you need it. There are no surprises or "gotchas" in our pricing. Question to MovingPlace
from TJ P. in VA - Thursday, February 14, 2019
Hi my name is TJ. I have a 10x15 storage unit in East Providence Rhode Island. I need to move a Queen size bed, and 2 dressers, along with numerous storage bins, and smaller household appliances back to Chesapeake VA. I would like to know the cost and size of space needed. Thank you
MovingPlace Response
Hi TJ, We would love to help you with your move to Chesapeake, VA. We would need a lot more information to really help determine the amount of space that you might need on the moving truck. You will need to take into consideration how much that 10x15 space is filled and then we can extrapolate that into how much space would be the equivalent on our moving truck. All of the trucks are 8 feet wide and 9 feet tall (they are actually a little wider than 8ft, but we call it 8 to be safe). Please give us a call at 800-876-6839 and one of our relocation specialists can help you determine a shipment size. Movingplace
Question to MovingPlace
from Lisa R. in FL - Wednesday, November 21, 2018
We are moving a 3 bedroom house, 1 ATV and a Motorcycle. Can 1 of your trucks handle our move?
MovingPlace Response
Hi Lisa, I would suggest getting on of our 28 foot trucks for your move. The inside dimensions are 8ft wide, 9 feet tall, and 28 feet long. That should be more than enough space to accommodate a 3 bedroom house moving with an ATV and a motorcycle. Movingplace
Question to MovingPlace
from Dawn F. in OK - Saturday, November 17, 2018
Do you ship ATV’s? I have four sportATVs and a razor that would need to be shipped.
MovingPlace Response
Hi Dawn, Yes, you can put your ATV's inside the moving van. You simply pay for the amount of space that is used, just like you would for a household move. Movingplace
Question to MovingPlace
from Richard S. in IL - Tuesday, February 13, 2018
We are condensing 2 households to 1 and moving to a mountain lake home . So 28 footer too small , semi not allowed. suggestion?
MovingPlace Response
Hi Richard, About the only option would be to use two 28ft trucks. We could arrange to bring one of those moving trucks one day and then swap it out with the second moving truck on the next day so that we could meet the restrictions of the smaller truck and still get a lot of stuff moved for you. Question to MovingPlace
from Diane W. in AK - Wednesday, December 27, 2017
I have an electric recliner that I'd like to ship from Little Rock to Lake Worth Florida is there a way I could put it on a load that's already going to South Florida and how much would that be
MovingPlace Response
HI Diane, Our minimum shipment is a 4ft x 8ft section on a moving truck, so we would be overkill for shipping just one item. We recommend going to the UPS Store for 1 piece shipments like that. They have a method of shipping where they will put that in a huge box and ship it in their freight system. That is the best way to move small shipments like that. Movingplace
Question to MovingPlace
from Naomi S. in CA - Saturday, October 7, 2017
We are moving from Bay Point CA to Las Vegas NV at the end of the month. Will a 4 bedroom house and 10x7 storage unit fit in the largest container you have?
MovingPlace Response
Hi Naomi, For a move as large as yours, we would recommend a full 53 foot tractor trailer. To answer your question directly, yes, that would normally fit into a full 53 foot moving van. That is the largest size that anyone would have available. If you have too much stuff, we can get a second smaller moving truck to you for the overflow within 24 hours. Movingplace
Question to MovingPlace
from Ruby O. in LA - Thursday, April 27, 2017
I need to move a 1968 Ford pickup, large rolling tool box, smaller tool box, and several medium to large boxes of clothes/photos, etc. from Fort Worth, TX to Kenner, LA in July. Not sure what to select on the "approximate size" field on the "Free Moving Quote"

Hi Ruby, Select the size for "Studio Apartment" and put the make and model of the vehicle to be shipped in the comments section of the quote form. One of our relocation specialists will put together some pricing and email it right over to you. Thanks! Movingplace
Question to MovingPlace
from Brynn U. in WI - Wednesday, March 15, 2017
Hello, do you also move boats and motorcycles in addition to cars and personal belongings? Is it possible to combine a load that includes a small car, pontoon boat (on trailer), and two motorcycles cross country (WI to AZ)? Thanks!
MovingPlace Response
Hi Brynn, We can help you with your cars and motorcycles along with your household furniture, but we cannot help you with moving the pontoon boat. Movingplace
Question to MovingPlace
from TERESA C. in CA - Friday, April 22, 2016
My daughter is moving from Aliso Viejo Ca to Bellingham Wa. She has maybe 3 or pieces of furniture like a desk, tomside tables and maybe a file cabinet. She says she will only have 10 small Home Depot boxes. She also needs to move her 2001 Toyota Echo. Need to know how to go about and get a quote if you can do it. Thank you for yiur help.
MovingPlace Response
Hi Teresa, Yes, we service most points in the "lower 48". Judging by the list that you have here, your daughter would probably only need the smallest size on one of the moving trucks. The trucks are 8.5ft wide and 9ft tall with the smallest length that we sell being 4 feet. If you fill out the quote request form and select the studio apartment size, one of our relocation specialists will email you a quote shortly. Thanks! Movingplace
Question to MovingPlace
from Janis S. in AZ - Thursday, March 10, 2016
I only have a 3 cushion sofa and a recliner to move from Az to Tx. Is that possible or is it too small a load?
MovingPlace Response
Hi Janis, While we are much more economical when moving larger shipments, we can handle smaller ones effectively in certain busy "lanes" where we often have moving trucks. AZ to TX is an easy one for us and we should be able to help you with a decent rate on moving a few items. Movingplace
Question to MovingPlace
from Tim H. in IL - Wednesday, January 6, 2016
Do you charge for the space used on the truck? Got a quote from you for 8' of truck space. Don't think I will need more than 6'. based on L x W x H
MovingPlace Response
Yes Tim. We charge based on the amount of space that you use on the moving van. Each moving truck is 8.5ft wide and 9ft tall. The variable is the length. We can quote you any size from 6ft up to 53ft. Movingplace
Question to MovingPlace
from Connie H. in AK - Thursday, December 3, 2015
how much would it cost to send a double size bed, from seattle to arlington virgina? head board, (just short of 6 feet tall) foot board, woven wire fabric support -but no mattress and no box springs.
MovingPlace Response
Hi Connie, If you only have a bed to ship, you may want to check out something like the UPS store. They have a service for shipping one item like that. You really need to have a room of furniture or more for us to make financial sense when ordering space on moving vans. Movingplace
Question to MovingPlace
from Marv T. in UT - Saturday, November 14, 2015
I have 17 small to medium boxes that I want moved from 48309 to 84746
MovingPlace Response
Hi Marv, Our services are best-utilized for moving van shipments of furniture and boxes. If you are just shipping boxes, I would suggest contacting UPS or checking on USPS ground shipments. That will be much cheaper than renting a moving van to ship just a few boxes. Movingplace

We would like to move a few pieces of furniture from Lebanon PA to Minneapolis MN. Is there a moving options for a few pieces of furniture?

Question to MovingPlace
from Lowell W. in ND - Thursday, May 8, 2014
What if I underestimate the space I need on the moving truck?
MovingPlace Response
Lowell, We always suggest ordering an extra couple of feet on the moving van so that you don't have to cram everything in. That being said, if you need more space on loading day, you can purchase it at the same per-foot rate that you paid for the rest of the space. Movingplace
Question to MovingPlace
from Mary B. in NC - Wednesday, December 18, 2013
How much space on the moving truck should I rent to move 4 rooms of furniture and 30 boxes
MovingPlace Response
A good rule of thumb when you rent space on a moving truck is to figure that each furnished room will use 4 to 5ft of space on the truck. All of the moving vans are 8.3ft wide and 9ft tall inside, so the only variable is the length that you choose for your load. If you call us at 800-876-6839, one of our relocation specialists can guide you in choosing the right amount of space.
